Over the last few tumultuous weeks and as I have been preparing to write my last ever blog as the Head of Wimbledon High School, that beautiful phrase has been resonating in my head. This will come as no surprise to the girls of Wimbledon High School. Mrs Lunnon? The unignorable fury and subsequent movement for justice generated by the murder of George Floyd has indicated for all of us, in the most dramatic and vital way, that history is indeed now, and here and developing all around us. We are complicit. We create history ourselves.
Student Representative Election — Board of Trustees Juliet Price - Returning OfficerNominations are invited for the election of one student representative to the Board of Trustees — forms are available from the Student Centre. This is a one year term beginning for the new trustee on Monday 28 September Please note that any full-time student is entitled to stand for election and vote.
The idea of venturing away from home after high school is daunting. The idea of venturing before that? Maybe a little terrifying. The catch is that the school is outside of your world and probably outside of your comfort zone. Semester schools offer specialized programs that allow high school students — typically during your junior year — to study away from home, getting real-world experiences along the way. Boarding school has a historic reputation of being a dismal place for children who have been forcibly ejected from their families. The media backs up this by depicting students as drunken, marauding adolescents; evil gangs conjuring up witch-craft in the woods; or desolate, picked-on children. None of which are exactly reassuring.
